Off-track hiking in southwest China
We are doing a tour of southwest china with equipment (tent/bags/stove/etc.) and are looking for information on good places to do treks that are far away from the throngs of tourists looking for cable cars to take them up mountains. Our loosely planned route takes us from Lijiang to Deqin then North then East towards Chondu in a large circle with lots of detours. Any suggestions? We would especially like to find a place in Western Sichuan where we can do a multi-day horse trek. thank you so much for any suggestions!

2 of our recommended routes may give you some idea.
Lijiang to Chengdu: http://www.chinatrekking.com/routes/mixed-tour/kunming-to-chengdu
Northwest Sichuan Circle(Horse-trek): http://www.chinatrekking.com/routes/mixed-tour/northwest-sichuan-circuit Songpan is a great place to do horse trek around, but Jiuzhaigou can be skipped.
Just a reminder that best season for travelling in SW China is in autumn, next is May-June when azalea is in full bloom all over the mountains, though, with the risk of avalanche.
Also, for the sake of safety, pls make sure that you are updated with the situation in those Tibetan areas on route. Currently there are some turbulence in Lhasa and Xiahe.
