trekking in Minya gongga in Nov or Dec, possible?
Hi there,
We are new here, pls give us some advices. We are from Malaysia, me and my wife are planning to trek in Minya Gongga.
We plan to fly to Chengdu, and travel towards Kangding by bus, then eventually trekking in Minya Gongga region from HaiLuoGuo. We are average joggers. Can we trek all the way to Camp 4 adn take the cable car down?
And about the weather, will it be too cold to trek around in Nov and Dec?

Hi,
Nov is still possible, but Dec may be alittle too late for this trek. for sure, it will be very cold then.
make sure you have enough warm clothing.
also, in Nov, you may not be able to go up to the base camp at 4800m., else other parts fo the trek should be fine.
i am trekking there this mid-Oct and another time from mid-end Nov with a group.
cheers,
Alvin
Thanks Alvin,
when u say cold, what is the temperature u are refering to? sorry, we are from a tropical country, never been to these region. The check on the whether forecast for Chengdu is around 7 to 16 degree C, but what about the region near Hailuoguo and the mountain?
BTW, if we want to do the trekking to camp no3, must we engage any guide?
also, when i check the map, the Konka Monestery is at the other side of the mountain, can we have access to that from HaiLuoGuo?
Any recommendation on where to stay in Hailuoguo and what guiding company to follow?
cheers,
Ban Yu

Hi Ban Yu,
the temperature in chengdu will be significantly higher than what you will experience up in the mountains.
expect 3-4 degC or even lower at minya konka monastery (3900m). at the base camp about 4800m, expect to go even further down to -3-0.
from HaiLuoGou, it is on the opposite side of the peak... as far as i know, you will have to enter the monastery from either CaoKe village, or from MoXiGou (from ZiMei village or YuLongXi village).
the groups that i led usually take this trail. it will take about 8-9days to-fro ChengDu. the actual trek from YuLongXi to CaoKe is about 4-5days.
you may email ask@shangrila-adventure.com if you wish to join a organised/customised trek.
cheers,
Alvin
